Free slaves?
What effect did Reconstruction have on former slaves? Were they better off after Reconstruction than they were before the Civil War?
After the Civil war slaves were free, but had to work for themselves and earn there own money. Sharecropping was a big part that effected the slaves lives because they worked on a white mans land as free people, but had to pay money to rent out farming tools and land. This was another form of slavery but allowed the African Americans have a slim income that they must support their whole family with.

Forgiving the South
During Reconstruction there was great debate over whether the South should be granted amnesty. What are your thoughts? Defend your argument.
Durrring the Reconstruction Abraham Lincoln granted the south amnesty or in other words he forgave them. My thoughts on this were he was trying to bring the United States back together and end the civil war. When this happened 10 percent of the souths population needed an oath of loyalty to the union in order to bring the United Stated back together. The north was very upset that Lincoln did this but he needed to do it to bring the United States back together.

American Government
When Thoreau said, "that government is best which governs least", what do you think he meant? Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
Yes i agree, because when the American government governs a lot of things in the United States things start to go bad. Such as the Civil War happened or a great depression. When the government does not do much to govern the economy the econonmy works out its self and runs fine. The middle class will rise and the lower class will lower because of the government not stepping in. This is what i think Thoreau means when he said this quote.

3. The South beleived that electing Lincoln would jeopardize there ability to own slaves. Even the North had some slavery supporters. So Lincoln eventually made the war about preserving the Union rather than slavery to win votes. Since he really needed votes around this time I guess this was actually a smart move.
2. In these days steriotypes are often used all over the world. Blacks are athletic, hispanics are loud, white people cant jump. These things get around to everyone and I beleive its spread around this world due to enemies and hate. Steriotypes are oftenly used to make fun of another or joke with another.

1. People may sometimes ask is history important? I beleive it is because theres no going back. Our history is full of many interesting events and it makes me think, if the littlest thing happened differently our whole world would be diffferent. Im pretty sure that any information about the past can help you in the future.
2. Have you ever heard the saying, "History is the lie commonly agreed upon." When Voltaire said this he is pretty much saying how history is never really the truth. Ask yourself, how does history get around? Think about it, what if a war happened who lives to tell the story? The winner of course, so do you honestly think the storys going to be exactly what happened? No. There going to say whatever they have to say to make themselves look best. Why, because they can do it without anyone saying different. And for this reason history is most the time not fully correct.
